When nectar is formed in a flower, bees will come by themselves

शमथ। Samatha

A seed has no idea of a plant, and a plant has no idea of a flower, yet when you imagine a plant, you see all these and more. When you sow a seed, wait for the seedling to appear, give water and manure to it, you have the ripened flowers or fruits in your mind. But you cannot force a flower or fruit to the plant.

In your life at home, office and the wider society, aren’t you sowing seeds? Do you find your enthusiasm wither away as your plant is simply vegetative and not budding? Don’t worry, you are not alone. But you must not take consolation in the fact that you are not the only one. Each stage of growth requires a different set of nutrients. Are you forgetting this under the assumption that you are fit to ripen? You must be grateful that your plant is still vegetative.

You cannot alter the stages of growth, but you can definitely influence its development. This influence must be understood as duty, and not as a shortcut. Remember that shortcuts cannot sustain you. Do not lose the larger for short-term gains. Perform your duties on all fronts with the right understanding, and you will witness your buds flower. And they will be filled with the nectar for the bees.

Our Shastras have given us this upadesha. आचारः परमो धमः।

Loosely translated, it means, Observance of duties is the greatest of duties or laws.
